The In-Between Season Explained: Why Your Style No Longer Matches Who You Are

Have you ever looked at your reflection and felt like it didn’t quite match the person you’ve become?

You’re not alone—and you’re not lost. You might just be in what I call the in-between season: that transitional space where your internal growth has outpaced your external presence. And while it may feel disorienting, it’s actually a powerful place to be.

In this post, I’m diving into what this season is, how to recognise it, and why it’s the perfect springboard for evolution.

What Is the In-Between Season?

The in-between season is that subtle, often-overlooked moment when something starts to feel “off.” Maybe it’s not your clothes exactly, but the version of yourself you’ve been presenting to the world no longer feels authentic.

You’ve evolved. Your title may have changed, your responsibilities may have grown, but your style—how you show up—hasn’t caught up yet. It’s not confusion. It’s clarity trying to emerge.

5 Signs You’ve Outgrown Your Current Style

  1. You keep reaching for that same "safe" outfit that doesn’t feel like you anymore.

  2. You land a new opportunity but worry more about how you’ll be seen than celebrating it.

  3. You find yourself scrolling for “what to wear” guides that all feel… wrong.

  4. You’re transitioning: stepping up in leadership, returning from a break, or starting a new chapter.

  5. You look in the mirror and don’t quite recognise the person staring back.

These micro-moments are powerful signals. They mean you're tuning in and becoming aware of your own evolution.

It’s Not a Setback—It’s a Springboard

Many women mistake this phase as a loss of identity, but it’s actually the opposite. It’s you becoming more self-aware. And once you notice that disconnect between how you feel inside and how you present outside, you’ve unlocked the first step to true transformation.

This moment is a springboard. The goal isn’t to “reinvent” yourself—it’s to reconnect with who you’re becoming and allow your presence to reflect that.

Start with Identity, Not Outfits

Here’s where most people get stuck: they want to evolve but fear feeling fake. So instead, they stall.

That’s why I always begin with identity. Ask yourself:

  • Who are you becoming? (Not your job title—your energy. Are you stepping into confidence, calm authority, and creativity?)

  • How do you want to be experienced? (Magnetic, bold, clear?)

  • Where are you showing up next? (Boardrooms? Zoom calls? Speaking gigs? That context matters.)

When you know the answers, your style can start to support—not define—you.

A Gentle Wardrobe Exercise

Try this: pick one piece from your wardrobe and ask yourself:

Does this represent where I’m going? Or does it remind me of where I’ve been?

There’s no judgment here. You don’t need to toss everything or buy 10 new outfits. This is about creating awareness, not rules.

Start small. What colours light you up? What shapes help you feel most grounded or lifted? Do you even own anything that feels like you?

Style Is Permission

Confidence doesn’t magically appear with a new look—it builds gradually. Each intentional choice gives you a little more permission to show up as the version of you you’re growing into.

It’s not just about the clothes. It’s about aligning your outside with your inside. It’s about saying: this is me, evolving, and I’m ready to be seen.

Final Thought: You're Not Behind—You're in the Before

Everyone talks about the “after,” but no one talks about the “before.” This in-between moment? That’s where your power is.

If you let yourself be there and explore it with intention, you’ll move through it with so much more clarity.

So here’s your invitation:

  • Choose your 3 future self words

  • Look at your wardrobe—do any outfits align with them?

  • If not, that’s your starting point.
