Welcome to another episode of the Style and Strategy podcast. I'm your host, Sonia, and I'm really excited to have you here. Before I get into today's episode, I wanted to let you know you're going to hear it here first. I have a brand and style challenge coming up in the next couple of weeks. So if you are interested in a three-day (with a bonus day) brand and style challenge to really get your engines firing when it comes to your personal brand and style before we hit holiday season, let me know and I will send you the link to join.
During those three days, you will learn some actionable tips and actually put them into action each day. I’ll give you a little activity every day, working through your brand and style, and discovering some hidden gems in your wardrobe that you may have forgotten about. We’ll try to maximize what you already have. I will also introduce some concepts from my programs, like the Ladder of Elevation, and teach you how to make your wardrobe work harder for you, whether it’s for work or weekends. We are one person, and we shouldn't have a separate work and weekend wardrobe – they should blend together seamlessly. I’m really excited about this, and if you’re interested, I’ll pop some details in the show notes.
You can always drop me a note via DM or email to find out more. Now, let’s get into today's episode.
Today’s topic is all about inspiration in your outfits. Why is it that so many clients tell me they're no longer inspired by their wardrobe? They often say it feels dull, plain, and boring, and they don't know why. I want to talk about three reasons why this might be happening and how we can get that spark back.
Normally, this conversation starts with the question, “Why do I have a wardrobe that I’m no longer excited to wear?” Trust me, you're not alone. It happens to everyone. Even the driven, high-impact women I work with can feel the same. Outfits that used to inspire you might feel like you're going through the motions now. Tonight, I’m going to explain why this happens and, more importantly, how to inject that spark back into your wardrobe.
The key here is connecting your wardrobe, your style, and your personal brand because they are all interconnected. But first, why does this even matter? It’s not just about clothes. It’s about how you express yourself, your brand, and how you feel. When your outfits stop inspiring you, it's a signal that something needs to change, and if you ignore it, things will only get worse. It will affect how you show up in the world. So, pay attention when this signal starts, and here's what you can do about it.
Reason one: you stick to the same outfits on repeat. I’m not talking about signature style or a particular outfit formula, but when you wear the same thing over and over because it feels comfortable and too familiar, you get bored. If you're no longer inspired by what you're wearing, it’s hard to feel inspired in other areas of life. This can also impact your personal brand. When you stick to looks that no longer inspire you, it signals that you're not evolving with your brand or where you want it to go in the future. You might feel static when your style should be growing as you progress. A great way to break the cycle is to incorporate one new piece or accessory each week. It doesn’t need to be a full wardrobe overhaul—small changes can make a big difference.
Reason two digs a little deeper: you're avoiding pieces that reflect your personality. Comfort can become a safety net where you fall back on basics. Over time, you might think you’ll never wear a statement piece, but that’s holding you back. If you continue avoiding pieces that reflect your true self, you lose part of your personality—and that's a disconnect with your brand. Remember, your personal brand is a reflection of who you are today, not who you were five years ago. If your wardrobe doesn’t reflect your current personality or values, you’re holding yourself back from showing up authentically.
Let me share a personal story. I used to want certain pieces, but my practical side would tell me not to get them. I’d buy cheaper versions instead, but I was never happy with them. The quality wasn’t right, or the fit was off. It was a big lesson for me to practice what I preach: get the piece that aligns with your values because you’ll wear it time and time again. This taught me that it’s crucial to understand what’s important to you and what might be holding you back from showing up as your authentic self.
My tip: start by identifying pieces that speak to your personality. Bold patterns, edgy accessories, or a power color that makes you feel like you. By incorporating these pieces, you’ll feel more excited to step out the door.
Reason three: settling for comfort over style can sabotage your personal brand. While I’m an advocate of comfort and style, relying too much on practicality can make you feel boring. You start settling, and over time, you feel uninspired because it doesn’t align with your ambition. Style is how you communicate who you are and what you stand for, and if your wardrobe doesn’t reflect your growth, it’s not just your clothes that feel stuck—it will impact your confidence and how you show up in the world. So, swap out one comfort piece for something edgier that makes you feel more like yourself.
To recap: your wardrobe might not be inspiring because you're repeating the same outfits, avoiding pieces that reflect your personality, and settling for comfort over style. These mistakes can create a disconnect between who you are and how you present yourself to the world. Remember, your style is a core part of your personal brand, and when you reconnect with it and dress to reflect your growth and ambition, the spark will return.
If this resonates with you, take a look at your wardrobe and ask yourself, “Am I dressing for the woman I am today and the woman I plan to be?” If not, it’s time to shake things up. I have some incredible resources to help refresh your style and bring inspiration back to your personal brand. I’ll include these in the show notes. If you'd like a more personalized audit, feel free to book a complimentary brand and style audit with me, and we’ll figure out a plan to move forward.
