The In-Between Season: When Your Style Hasn't Caught Up to Your Leadership
You reach for the same safe outfit every morning. It still works in a technical sense. But something about putting it on feels like playing a part you've already outgrown.
You land an opportunity and instead of celebrating, you're anxious about how you'll be seen. You scroll for guidance on what to wear, but nothing feels quite right. Not because you've run out of options. Because the options you have belong to a woman you're not quite anymore.
I call this the in-between season. It's the space between who you've become internally and how you're still showing up externally. Your leadership has evolved. Your decisions carry more weight. But the visual layer hasn't caught up.
I was on a call recently with a client who runs teams, speaks on panels. She told me that when she sees images from those events, she cringes. Not because her work wasn't strong. Because the reflection she sees doesn't match who she feels like on the inside.
This is where most women get stuck. They know they want to evolve, but they don't want to feel fake. So they stall. They stay in what's familiar because it doesn't require a decision they're not ready for.
That's why I never start with the wardrobe. I start with identity. Who are you now? How do you want to be experienced? Where are you showing up next? Because without that clarity, every wardrobe decision becomes a guess. And guessing is what creates that "this doesn't feel like me" sensation in the first place.
If you're in that in-between season right now, you're not behind. You're in the before. The before that everyone skips over.
